Refractive and Medical Ophthalmic Surgery
Diagnosis and Management (both medical and surgical) of the following conditions:
{near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism} These can be corrected with prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses. We fit all spectrum of contact lenses including disposables, daily throw-aways, toric contact lenses for patient's with astigmatism and even multifocal contact lenses for those patients who desire less dependence on glasses for reading.
refractive errors
We have the ability to diagnose, culture (if needed) and promptly treat cornea infections, abrasions and corneal erosions both medically and surgically.
corneal disease
We perform sutureless cataract surgery at the Ambulatory Surgery Center of the Medical Center in Bowling Green using the latest Ozil phacoemulsification technology. We customize intraocular lenses and also offer toric intraocular lenses to correct astigmatism when appropriate. Additionally, for patients who are strongly motivated to minimize use of reading glasses, we offer "modified monovision" at no additional cost which has recently been shown to be as effective (and in some ways superior) to multifocal intraocular lenses. Our office is equipped with a YAG laser which is used to clear off "scar tissue" that can occur after intraocular lens placement. Having had extensive laser training in our medical residencies, we have the experience to judge when use of YAG laser is appropriate as well as the proper training and expertise to safely and accurately use the laser.
cataract
Having received extensive retina training during residency, we have the expertise to diagnose and treat patients with macular degeneration and appropriately refer to a retina specialist when further treatment, such as laser or injection, is needed. We work closely with several retina specialists from Nashville, TN who also have offices and regular clinic hours here in Bowling Green.
macular degeneration
We have expertise to manage patients with a wide range of glaucoma diagnoses: from those who are called "suspects" to the patient with advanced disease. We are thoroughly trained in the medical management (drops and pills when needed) as well as laser treatment when appropriate. We work closely with the glaucoma specialists when glaucoma surgery is needed. Our office also offers automated visual fields as well as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), both of which are used to objectively evaluate and monitor any changes in vision due to glaucoma.
glaucoma
We have the proper training and expertise to remove almost all eyelid growths/lesions in the office in our minor procedure room. Additionally, Dr. Moore has training in oculoplastics and perfoms surgery on various problems including malposition of the eyelids such as entropion and ectropion. Dr. Moore also has vast experiencein blepharoplasty (surgical correction of droopy eyelids due to excess skin or dermatochalasis) for both visual rehab and cosmesis. Both Drs. Moore and Wentworth perform Botox injections for blepharospasms (excessive twitching of the muscles around the eyes) as well as cosmetic Botox (removal of wrinkles).
eyelid disorders
As medical doctors, our training includes diagnosing and managing many systemic diseases, including diabetes mellitus. As ophthalmologists, we have the ability to assess whether or not various ocular tissue are being significantly affected by abnormal blood sugars and can make further recommendations regarding control of blood sugars based on these observations. Additionally, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of the retina can be used to evaluate for changes related to diabetes, especially macula edema (swelling). We work closely with several retina specialists in the area and a referral can be made promptly
diabetic eye disease
Dr. Moore has trained at a Level I trauma center and has extensive experience in the management and surgery of injuries to the eye and surrounding structures. His surgical expertise includes: eye laceration repair, eyelid laceration repair, management of chemical burns, removal of foreign bodies in the eye, management/treatment of hyphema (bleeding inside the eye), and recommendations regarding orbital fractures.
ocular trauma
Dr.Moore is one of the few ophthalmologists who will examine patients under the age of 5 here in Bowling Green. He performs school vision screening exams, and has the expertise to evaluate for amblyopia, strabismus, nasolacrimal duct obstructions and other eyelid disorders (including ptosis). He performs nasolacrimal probing to correct nasolacrimal duct obstruction at the Ambulatory Surgery department of the Medical Center here in Bowling Green. Additionally, he works closely with the strabismus specialists at Vanderbilt University if eye muscle surgery is deemed necessary.
pediatric eye exams
Dr. Wentworth is a pioneer of refractive surgery and has 15+ years of experience in the surgical correction of near-sightedness and astigmatism. She is certified and has extensive training in the newest, all-laser LASIK technique called iLASIK or "intralase." She is the only ophthalmologist in the region to offer the bladeless, iLASIK technique.
refractive surgery
Drs. Moore and Wentworth perform small incision sutureless cataract surgery using the most current phacoemulsification equipment and only the safest FDA approved intraocular lenses. Cataract surgery can not only restore your vision, but correct previous refractive imperfections such as near sightedness, far sightedness and astigmatism. In most cases, it will eliminate your need for glasses for driving or watching TV and in some cases even reading. For more information about cataract surgery and intraocular lenses go to

The Intralase Method is a 100% blade-free technique using two different lasers to perform the LASIK procedure to correct vision. Safe, fast and virtually painless, IntraLase is the most sophisticated and accurate technology for vision correction.
Specializing in vision correction surgery, Dr. Wentworth has been performing laser refractive surgery using the VISX Excimer Laser since 1994. She uses the custom wavefront guided technique where the laser correction is guided by a three dimensional map of your cornea producing the ability to correct common refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism as well as slight irregularities in how the eye processes information. Dr. Wentworth is fully certified and experienced in the newest technique of iLASIK (bladeless or “all-laser” LASIK,) traditional LASIK and PRK.
